Fondo de Voces de Mujeres
Women & Children First
About the Fund
El Fondo de Voces de Mujeres was established in November, 2005, to help support programming at Mujeres & Los niños primero, one of the last remaining feminist bookstores in the United States. The Women’s Voices Fund ensures that events fostering discussion of feminist issues and culture, and nurturing children’s delight in books will continue to play a vital role in Chicago’s intellectual, literary, and political life. The Fund also makes possible internal support for staff such as trainings, retreats, and mission meetings.
WVF Mission
Outside support through the Women’s Voices Fund is crucial to guaranteeing that a wide and diverse range of women’s voices and the best voices in children’s literature continue to be heard.
By covering all event-related expenses, the WVF has made it possible for our feminist bookstore to host such luminaries as Eve L. Ewing, Roxane Gay, Laura Jane Grace, Leah Lakshmi Piepzna Samarsinha, Mariame Kaba, Mikki Kendall, Rebecca Traister, and Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. Beyond bringing these established authors and feminist leaders to the Chicago area, the fund makes it possible for us to also take chances on new and emerging authors who have yet to find their audience.Mujeres & Los niños primero, Independent Bookstore
