Grantmaking Process

Grantmaking Process

Seed Fund

The application review process runs from March to June each year. Each application is screened by staff and Giving Project alumni based on whether a group’s work falls within our Funding Criteria. Those applications meeting our criteria are reviewed and selected for a site visit by the Grantmaking Committee (GMC). The GMC is made up of board, staff, and members of Crossroads Fund’s Giving Project. Site visits/interviews are conducted by the GMC. The GMC makes funding recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval in June. All applicants are notified of the final funding decision within a week of the Board’s decision, generally late June or early July.

Technical Assistance

The application review process generally takes 6 weeks for the Technical Assistance Fund. Each application is screened by staff based on whether a group’s work falls within our Funding Criteria. Staff then makes funding recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval. All applicants are notified of the final funding decision by phone call or email.

Critical Response Funds

The application review process generally takes 7 working days for the Emergency Fund (EM). Each application is screened by staff based on whether a group’s work falls within our Funding Criteria. Staff then makes funding recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval. All applicants are notified of the final funding decision by phone call or email.

Youth Fund for Social Change

The application deadline varies from year to year, but generally falls in the fall or winter. Each application is screened by staff based on whether a group’s work falls within our Funding Criteria. Those applications meeting our criteria are reviewed and selected for a site visit by the Youth Fund Grantmaking Committee (GMC). The Youth Fund GMC is made up of Crossroads Fund board members, as well as staff and youth organizers and young people working with youth organizations. Site visits are conducted by GMC. GMC makes funding recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval. All applicants are notified of the final funding decision within a week of the Board’s decision, generally by early February.
